How to Not Lose Your Sh*t During the Social Distancing

How to Not Lose Your Sh*t During the Social Distancing

What seems like merely days ago, sitting and staring at the blank, uneventful, undesirable gray wall across your solitude of a bed was deemed boredom, perhaps even the beginning stages of depression. Now, however, it’s just another Tuesday afternoon. It’s just another blank space to absorb your dreary wonders of whether or not you’ll ever truly recuperate from not only the sting of a deeply wounded economy, or the very real fears of a virus proving to be deadly, but from the lack of a social life that you truly took for granted.

So here you are, half dressed and half full. You’re breaking and as every minute inside passes, another piece of your sanity dissolves into the pit of negativity that’s lurking deep within your soul. How do you manage to pull yourself together, to get out of bed, or find reason within your day? We’ve compiled a few tips that have personally helped us not lose our shit- not completely anyway.

      1. Moms- hide. If you have been barricaded inside with children, please know that you still matter. Mama please take the time to hide, to breathe, and to absorb a little bit of peace while you still can, even if doing so means locking yourself in the bathroom for 45 minutes. Things are hectic with the homeschooling, entertaining, and potential bickering among the siblings. It’s exceptionally easy to just give up and to give in to the depression.

      1. Put on real pants. We know, wearing pjs all day everyday has been a dream to some of us for years. Now that the opportunity has come to fruition, our ambition and drive seem to have depleted. In spite of nobody seeing you, maintaining your typical routine of getting dressed can make or break you, psychologically anyways.

      1. Socialize for at least 15 minutes a day. We aren’t suggesting going out to your friends’ houses, in fact we recommend you stay put. We do suggest hopping on  facetime, phonecall, or zoom
      2. Turn off your brain. If you’re a worry wart like me, you’re probably clinging to your toilet right now. Vomit is making its way up...again. There are a million different scenarios that could happen regarding the outcome of the shut in. You’ve played them all out, multiple times, multiple different ways, over and over again in your brain. It’s time to stop that. STOP IT! Relax to the best of your ability, meditate if you can, and simply enjoy the time you have with the people you have. The fact that you have the opportunity to do that means everything.

      1. Limit the news. Don’t get me wrong, staying up to date with the world’s circumstances is important. Drowning in it, however, is not. There’s only so much you need to absorb. Get the facts, but hearing too much too often just creates more fear.

These times are rough for everyone. Try, as difficult as it may be, to understand that it’s only temporary and that despite us all apart, we are all in this together.  Also remember, it’s okay to feel completely Mentally Unstable. You’re still, even in your yoga pants,Queen AF. And despite the madness  you still need to get up and conquer the world like the Badass B*itch that you are! #YouGotThisGirl
